Wheelchair Dance Masterclass with Laura Jones
Stopgap Dance Company will be running a three-day masterclass in Wheelchair Dance with Interim Artistic Director, Laura Jones.
The intensive is aimed at emerging and professional wheelchair dancers. It will explore material based on the creative research and development for the duet Apart: a collaboration between renowned wheelchair dancers Laura Jones and Suzie Birchwood with Choreographer Abi Mortimer (Lila Dance).
Laura will lead morning class on wheelchair specific dance technique, drawing on her extensive experience as a professional wheelchair dancer, followed by learning repertoire. In the afternoon there will be a chance to explore the creative process, choreographic tasks and an opportunity for skills-sharing.
Laura has danced professionally with Stopgap for 15 years, performing and teaching all over the world. She is also a fierce advocate for the dance and disability sector and regularly speaks at conferences and industry events.
