David Willdridge

David joined Stopgap in 2009. Currently he is interested in developing his choreographic voice and pushing the boundaries of inclusive choreography.

David studied at Middlesex University where he received a BA Honours in Dance and Performing Arts. He subsequently joined Northern School of Contemporary Dance’s postgraduate company Verve 08 performing works by Henri Oguike and Darshan Singh Bhuller. After graduating he joined Springs Dance Company for the tour of Living the Eucharist. He has worked with choreographers Shobana Jeyasingh, Thomas Noone and Rob Tannion.

With Stopgap Dance Company David has toured nationally and internationally on tours including Japan 2009; UK National Tour Trespass 2010 2011; European Street Arts Festivals Tour Tracking 2008 & 2012 and UK Cultural Olympiad outdoor tour SPUN Productions 2012.

As a choreographer David created Leave Elegance to the Tailor for Resolution! 2013, was successful in receiving the In-House choreography commission, creating String Quartet on Sg2 and choreographed sports dance phrases for The Great British Burn Off.

David takes particular pride in working with and training young dance artists. He has run a Stopgap Youth Dance Group in Farnham; an integrated summer school at the Point in Eastleigh and, most recently, assisted the National Youth Dance Company in making their auditions accessible for disabled artists.  He has also led a number of large community dance projects, choreographing sharings and short performances.

David has collaborated with Stopgap Dance Company on Portfolio Collection; Tracking; Trespass; SPUN Productions; Artificial Things and The Seafarers.
