Stopgap's Christmas Platform by Cherie
Cherie tells us about her involvement in the up coming Christmas event - ‘Northern Lights’.
It’s less than a month until Stopgap’s first Community dance platform and I have been busy designing the tickets, getting 200 printed off and cut down to size, ready to be sold. I’m very proud of my ticket design and enjoyed the process of experimenting and creating the tickets. There was a lot of… ‘Do I like that?’ ‘No, delete’ ‘That’s pretty’ (I’m a little bit of a perfectionist) - but they’re all finished now and set to go.
I have been put in charge of ticket selling and have been making spreadsheets to keep an eye on how many we sell and to whom. I have also sent out emails to invite V.I.Ps to come and watch the platform (I’ve never been so nervous about writing an email). However, it's all good experience and is really starting to improve my writing and admin skills. There will also be a Facebook event, so keep an eye out for that.
As well as all the office and admin side of things for the Xmas Platform, I have also been involved in the creative side. I take part in both of Stopgap's Youth groups in Guildford and Farnham, where we have been working on pieces to perform at the platform. Both pieces are very different and I am enjoying working with the groups. I have been working with the Guildford youth group for a while now and really feel apart of the group; I always look forward to Wednesday evenings. The rehearsals are going well and I can’t wait to see the end product. The Farnham youth group has not been running as long and the age range of the group is younger than Guildford. The group is so lovely and it’s always a pleasure to work with them. We are working hard at rehearsals and are starting to piece everything together.
I am very excited to be performing with the youth groups in the platform and I am happy that I have had the chance to see what it is like working in the office and in the creative side of things when putting on a show.
‘Northern Lights’ Stopgap’s Christmas Community Platform will be taking place on Tuesday 10th December, 7pm at the Farnham Maltings - Tickets are £6.
