Laura Jones Dancer
Performing with Stopgap since 2001, Laura has been integral to the growth and direction of the company and is a fierce advocate for the dance and disability sector. Drawing from her immense experience of devising and translating movement material, Laura has begun to establish a technical framework for dancers who use wheelchairs.
In 1998 Laura became the first wheelchair user to complete 100% of the A-Level dance syllabus. She has worked with choreographers including Bettina Strickler, Adam Benjamin, Filip Van Huffel, Carol Brown, Rob Tannion, Gary Clarke, Nathalie Purnette, Thomas Mettler, Thomas Noone, Dan Watson, Caroline Bowditch and Kevin Finnan.
As a part of Stopgap Dance Company Laura has toured both nationally and internationally including Portugal 2003; Sweden Tour 2004 & 2007; Japan Tour 2009, UK National Tour Triple Bill 2005; UK National Tour Portfolio Collection 2008 – 2009; British Council Mixed Ability Dance Project Albania & Romania; UK National Tour Trespass 2010 & 2011 and European Street Arts Festivals Tour Tracking 2008 & 2012.
As a choreographer Laura successfully created A:Version for Resolution! 2009 and choreographed and edited the dance film Re:bound.
In the summer of 2012 Laura took on the role of Dance Captain for the Paralympics Opening Ceremony. During this time she assisted choreographer Kevin Finnan (Motionhouse), rehearsed 3500 dancers and performed in all of the dance routines in the ceremony.
Laura has collaborated with Stopgap on Triple Bill, Double Booked, Portfolio Collection, Tracking, Trespass, SPUN Productions and Artificial Things.
